Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and strategic Market Director, Commercial Lines to lead our Commercial Lines division. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the Commercial Lines service and marketing teams while providing strategic direction, operational oversight, and performance leadership across the department. The ideal candidate is a proven Commercial Lines leader with strong technical expertise, exceptional leadership skills, and a passion for developing high-performing teams. This position plays a critical role in supporting client retention, operational excellence, employee development, and the continued growth of the Commercial Lines business.

Work Arrangement: This is a full-time hybrid position reporting to our office in Cheshire, CT. Travel to other nearby offices may also be required.

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Commercial Lines division, ensuring exceptional client service and consistent execution of agency standards.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Commercial Lines service team by establishing performance expectations, coaching employees, and supporting professional growth.
  • Oversee the Commercial Lines marketing department, ensuring timely, competitive, and effective placement of new and renewal business.
  • Develop and implement departmental goals, service standards, workflows, and performance metrics to improve operational efficiency and client satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with Producers, carrier partners, and agency leadership to support business growth, client retention, and profitability objectives.
  • Monitor departmental performance, workload distribution, and service quality while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a technical resource and escalation point for complex coverage issues, client concerns, and carrier negotiations.
  • Foster strong relationships with carrier partners to maximize market access, strengthen partnerships, and improve placement opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with agency procedures, carrier requirements, and industry regulations while minimizing operational and E&O risk.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, training, and succession planning initiatives to build and maintain a high-performing Commercial Lines organization.
  • Analyze operational and financial reports to identify trends, measure performance, and drive strategic decision-making.
  • Stay current on commercial insurance products, carrier appetites, regulatory changes, and industry trends through ongoing professional development.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • 10+ years of Commercial Lines insurance experience, including progressive leadership responsibilities.
  • Active Property & Casualty insurance license required.
  • Previous experience leading Commercial Lines service and/or marketing teams within an independent insurance agency.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial insurance products, underwriting principles, carrier markets, and placement strategies.
  • Demonstrated success leading teams, improving operational performance, and developing employees.
  • Experience with agency management systems, carrier portals, and Microsoft Office Suite; Applied Epic experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and strategic planning skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while driving operational excellence in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Professional designations such as CIC, CPCU, ARM, or similar are preferred.

Pay Range: $180,000 - $190,000 per year depending on experience.

*A wide salary range is posted for this position and any job offer is based upon a salary analysis to comply with the required state pay transparency law. The salary analysis considers relevant experience, education, certifications, and seniority as compared to others doing substantially similar work. There is no guarantee an offer will be at the top of the posted range based on the salary analysis.
