ABOUT onX

We’re a team of builders, adventurers, and risk takers using technology to help people confidently explore the outdoors. Driven by our mission to awaken the adventurer inside everyone, we build products that optimize every outdoor experience and inspire confidence to get out and go further.

We’re a high-growth tech company. The pace is fast, the work takes grit, and ambiguity is part of the job. As the world changes around us, we adapt - continuously evolving how we build, prioritize, and deliver.

Our business moves quickly, and there’s real opportunity to shape what we build next. Each of our verticals - Hunt, Offroad, Backcountry, and Fish - is at a different stage of maturity, which means the challenges you encounter and the impact you have will vary depending on where you sit and what the business needs most.

We operate with an experimentation mindset, continually iterating and improving how we solve problems. We expect our people to use the latest tooling, including AI, thoughtfully and responsibly, pairing human judgment with technology to increase quality, speed, and impact.

Our impact comes to life through the products we build, in the stories of our customers, and in our growing commitment to land stewardship and recreational access.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

onX is seeking a Head of Product to own the next stage of growth for Angling. You will lead a high-growth consumer product on the exponential path to scale. You will set a compelling long-term vision for how we serve all 50M North American anglers and will own turning that vision into experiences that help them discover where to fish, prepare for outings, and make better decisions on the water.

Partnering with the General Manager (GM) and Chief Product Officer (CPO), you will build the team and product capabilities to turn that ambition into results. You will start with one PM reporting to you, and as the business scales you will attract and develop talent and build a world-class product organization. This is also a hands-on role: you will directly lead a meaningful product area while increasing the impact and independence of the PMs you coach.

The ideal candidate has a record of leading a consumer product through rapid growth and developing strong product teams. You combine a passion for knowing the customer with high-level business acumen. You have a strong ability to articulate a long-term vision that inspires action. You bring extensive experience coaching PMs and leading through influence in a matrixed organization, with the judgment to balance near-term results and investments in future growth.

This position reports to the GM of Angling and works closely with the CPO and Product organization. Together, you will align on product direction, investment priorities, and the team and capabilities needed for Angling’s next stages of growth.

*Note: Externally titled Head of Product, this position maps internally to Group Product Manager II (P5).

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Essential Job Duties & Functions

  • Own product vision and strategy. Set the long-term direction and roadmap for Angling. Align with the GM, CPO, and cross-functional leaders on the customer problems to solve, how onX will stand apart, and investment priorities.
  • Turn customer insight into differentiated experiences. Combine direct engagement with anglers, research, product data, and market insight to identify unmet needs. Evaluate opportunities across customer segments and geographies, using experimentation to test assumptions before scaling investment.
  • Manage and develop product talent. Set clear expectations, provide actionable feedback, and grow PM judgment, ownership, and independence. Partner with the GM and CPO on hiring and team structure as business needs and investment plans evolve.
  • Stay close to execution. Directly lead discovery and delivery for the product, from framing opportunities through launch and iteration. Partner with marketing, content, and business development to support successful launches and sustained adoption.
  • Connect product decisions to business results. Establish customer and business success measures with the GM, BI, and Finance. Use performance data and business-impact understanding to guide product investments, inform packaging and pricing decisions, and improve activation, conversion, retention, and revenue growth.
  • Lead through cross-functional partnership. Align engineering, design, geospatial content, marketing, and other onX teams around clear priorities and ownership. Resolve dependencies and competing priorities, communicate tradeoffs, and balance Angling needs with broader company objectives.
  • Develop the product portfolio. Define and evolve the product's packaging and tiering, informed by market segmentation, user behavior, and revenue opportunities. Partner with BI and Finance to model the business impact of packaging, pricing, and feature placement decisions.
  • Exercise sound judgment amid ambiguity. Make timely decisions with incomplete information, explain the rationale and risks, and adapt as evidence changes. Partner with technical and functional leaders to address root causes and balance near-term delivery with quality and long-term scalability.
  • Strengthen how teams work. Establish and improve discovery, experimentation, and planning practices that increase speed, quality, and learning. Share effective approaches across the Product and Angling teams, including thoughtful use of AI with appropriate validation.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Ten (10) or more years of product management experience leading software products or platforms, including demonstrated success scaling a consumer product. You can connect your product decisions to sustained improvements in customer adoption, engagement, retention, or revenue.
  • Experience leading consumer mobile products and making choices that improve the core customer experience while supporting business growth.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience hiring, leading, and coaching Product Managers, with a record of building high-performing product teams. Experience developing talent and evolving ownership, capabilities, and ways of working as a business scales.
  • Demonstrated experience articulating a compelling long-term product vision, bringing senior and cross-functional stakeholders along, and translating that vision into strategic choices, investment priorities, and measurable results.
  • Strong customer discovery and analytical skills, including customer research, experimentation, product metrics, and evaluation of commercial impact.
  • Experience guiding products from early opportunity through growth and greater scale, with the judgment to balance new bets, improvements for existing customers, and the capabilities needed for continued expansion.
  • Experience leading across multiple teams in a matrixed organization. You build trust, align partners outside your reporting line, resolve competing priorities, and communicate decisions and tradeoffs clearly to technical, business, and executive audiences.
  • A collaborative approach to decision making: seek different perspectives, test assumptions, and propose practical solutions when constraints or disagreements arise.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, sound technical judgment, and experience working with engineering and design throughout product development.
  • A strong curiosity for exploring new technologies, including AI
  • A shared passion for and ability to demonstrate onX’s Company Values.
  • Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX.
  • Ability to travel up to twice a quarter for multiple days to a corporate office or other onX strategic location, such as a Basecamp.

  • Interest in fishing and a willingness to spend time learning directly from anglers.
