Position Summary:

The Ophthalmic Technician supports ophthalmologists by performing patient assessments, diagnostic testing, and clinical procedures. This role ensures the efficient operation of the clinic and contributes to the delivery of high-quality eye care services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collects and documents patient medical and ocular histories.
  • Performs preliminary vision tests including visual acuity, tonometry, pupil evaluation, refraction, and color vision.
  • Administers eye drops and topical medications as directed by the physician.
  • Conducts diagnostic imaging such as optical coherence tomography (OCT), fundus photography, and visual field testing.
  • Assists with in-office procedures and minor surgeries.
  • Prepares examination rooms and maintains ophthalmic instruments and equipment.
  • Educates patients on treatment plans, medication usage, and post-procedure care.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date patient records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited ophthalmic technician program preferred.
  • Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or higher preferred.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in an ophthalmology or optometry setting.
  • Proficiency with ophthalmic instruments and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
