The AI-First Product Owner ensures that squads have clear specifications, product priorities, product clarifications, and validation expectations needed to build the right product increments. The role is responsible for working out how agreed Product Management requirements should behave in the product, while keeping Product Management consulted and aligned on important scope, product, and trade-off decisions.
The role requires practical AI use from day one to improve specification drafting, prototyping, edge-case exploration, clarification, analysis, and review of product artefacts. It also requires an understanding of Agentic AI fundamentals, as CluePoints is developing AI-enabled product capabilities, not only using AI as an internal productivity tool. Product definition and specification
- Work from Product Management requirements, product intent, customer needs, business priorities, and roadmap direction to define how the agreed product problem should be addressed.
- Produce and maintain clear specifications and supporting product documentation that define expected behavior, workflows, business rules, edge cases, constraints, UX/product expectations, and validation intent for Engineering, QA, and UX/Product Design.
- Clarify assumptions, dependencies, open questions, and what is intentionally out of scope before implementation starts.
- Use AI actively to explore workflows, edge cases, UI/UX options, prototype directions, specification alternatives, and validation scenarios, while critically challenging AI-generated outputs.
- Ensure specifications reflect regulatory, platform, technical, customer, domain, and AI-product constraints.
- Make pragmatic squad-level specification and scope recommendations in conjunction with Product Management, and take decisions within the agreed product direction while escalating unresolved product questions when needed.
- Share relevant delivery feedback, validation findings, and product observations with Product Management to support follow-up decisions.
- Own product prioritization of squad backlog topics within the agreed product direction, including features, bugs, spikes, improvements, and product prioritization input on technical initiatives.
- Ensure the squad has clear specifications, priorities, and product clarifications needed for delivery.
- Support the Tech Lead and squad when breakdown into epics, user stories, tasks, or acceptance criteria reveals gaps, ambiguity, edge cases, or product trade-offs.
- Coordinate bug triage and Support interactions, balancing product issues with feature work, stakeholder priorities, and delivery capacity.
- Facilitate internal squad alignment, contribute to agile ceremonies where relevant, and support sprint or release readiness, workload visibility, risk identification, and impediment management.
- Consult and align with Product Management and relevant stakeholders on delivery progress, risks, decisions, and changes that affect scope, timing, or expected outcomes.
- Collaborate closely with QA / Agile Testers so validation activities reflect the agreed requirements, specifications, impacted functionality, edge cases, and expected behavior.
- Support Engineering and QA during implementation and validation by clarifying specifications, expected behavior, and product decisions.
- Validate delivered outcomes through sprint and stakeholder demos, feedback loops, and follow-up actions, ensuring increments match the agreed requirements, specifications, Definition of Done, customer value, and stakeholder expectations.
- Translate relevant delivery and stakeholder feedback into specification follow-up or Product Management input.
- A hands-on Product Owner role in a regulated B2B SaaS product environment.
- A role responsible for turning Product Management requirements into clear specifications, validation intent, product clarifications, and product prioritization input for squad delivery.
- A role that uses AI from day one for specification, prototyping, clarification, analysis, and review.
- A role requiring strong collaboration with Product Management, UX/Product Design, Engineering, QA, SMEs, Support, customers or users where relevant, and other stakeholders.
- A role for someone with the product judgment, AI fluency, learning agility, and ownership mindset to contribute beyond classic Product Owner execution when needed.
- A pure Scrum Master, delivery coordinator, or backlog administration role limited to ticket follow-up.
- A role where Product Management hands over every detail of the solution and the Product Owner only coordinates execution.
- A role where the Product Owner replaces Product Management accountability for product strategy, roadmap prioritization, requirements, outcomes, or final product direction.
- A role where the Product Owner owns detailed technical decomposition or the default breakdown into epics, user stories, tasks, and acceptance criteria.
- A role where AI usage is optional, superficial, or limited to casual productivity use.
- Senior experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or similar product delivery role.
- Strong ability to work from Product Management requirements and turn them into clear specifications, expected behavior, constraints, validation intent, and product clarifications.
- Experience working closely with Product Management, Engineering, QA, UX/Product Design, SMEs, Support, business stakeholders, and customers or users where relevant.
- Strong analytical thinking, product judgment, ownership, and ability to make pragmatic trade-offs within an agreed product direction.
- Real hands-on use of AI in product specification, analysis, documentation, prototyping, review, or delivery workflows.
- Ability to challenge AI-generated outputs rather than accepting them at face value.
- Working understanding of Agentic AI fundamentals, including how AI-enabled product behavior can be specified, evaluated, constrained, and validated.
- Ability to ramp up quickly in complex, regulated product domains by working with SMEs, documentation, data, customer context, and AI-assisted research.
- Ability to structure and communicate delivery feedback, validation findings, and product observations clearly to support Product Management decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work autonomously, manage ambiguity, and remain effective in a changing environment.
- Attention to detail, customer-mindedness, and proactive ownership.
- Experience in regulated B2B SaaS environments.
- Experience in life sciences, clinical trials, pharma technology, or related domains.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum delivery models.
- Experience growing from Product Owner or analysis responsibilities toward Product Management responsibilities.
- Prior hands-on experience with specification-driven development, AI-first development practices, or AI-assisted product/engineering workflows.
