Insurance Business Analyst - Contract

Beyond Risk Management is hiring an Insurance Business Analyst to help support its growing partner companies! The Business Analyst (BA) serves as a strategic liaison between business stakeholders and technology teams, with a strong focus on MGASystems (IMS) and related policy administration platforms. This role is responsible for analyzing insurance business processes, managing system requirements, and supporting enhancements across policy administration systems (PAS) and integrations. The BA partners closely with underwriting, operations, product, and IT teams to ensure solutions effectively support the full policy lifecycle—including underwriting, rating, billing, endorsements, renewals, cancellations, and reinstatements—while meeting regulatory, operational, and business goals.
Key Responsibilities
Business & Process Analysis
- Partner with underwriting, operations, product, actuarial, claims, billing, and compliance teams to elicit, analyze, and document business and system requirements
- Analyze end-to-end insurance policy lifecycle processes including new business, endorsements, renewals, cancellations, reinstatements, and policy servicing
- Identify process gaps, inefficiencies, and automation opportunities within policy administration workflows
- Create detailed business process models, functional requirements, use cases, and user stories aligned to MGASystems capabilities
Policy System Management (MGASystems Focus)
- Support configuration, enhancement, and ongoing optimization of MGASystems (IMS) and Excel Raters and other systems
- Translate insurance product rules, rating structures, coverage definitions, underwriting guidelines, and forms requirements into system specifications
- Collaborate with technical teams and vendors to support integrations with rating engines, document management, billing, claims, reporting, and platforms
- Ensure business requirements are accurately implemented and aligned with technical design decisions
Stakeholder & Project Support
- Act as a primary liaison between business users, vendors, and internal IT teams during system enhancements and implementations
- Facilitate requirements workshops, backlog refinement sessions, design reviews, and solution walkthroughs
- Support Agile delivery activities, including user story creation, sprint planning, and backlog grooming
- Lead and support user acceptance testing (UAT), including test case development, execution, defect management, and business sign-off
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure system configurations comply with insurance regulations, internal controls, and audit requirements
- Support regulatory filings, form and rating updates, and product changes as they relate to policy system configuration
- Assist with data analysis and reporting related to policy performance, underwriting results, operational metrics, and compliance tracking
Documentation & Change Management
- Develop and maintain functional documentation, configuration specifications, and end-to-end process flows
- Create training materials and support end-user adoption of processes and enhancements
- Provide post-implementation support and recommend continuous improvements to policy system functionality and business processes
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Insurance, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience as a Business Analyst or in a related analytical role, preferably within the insurance industry
- Hands-on experience gathering and documenting requirements for policy administration systems
- Strong understanding of insurance policy lifecycle processes
- Proficiency with documentation and analysis tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, Confluence, Planner, or similar)
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with MGASystems (IMS), Excel Raters strongly preferred
- Experience supporting MGA or specialty insurance operations
- Familiarity with underwriting rules, rating engines, insurance data models, and product configuration
- Knowledge of insurance regulatory and compliance requirements
- Experience supporting system implementations, upgrades, or major process transformation initiatives
- Familiarity with SQL, data analysis, or reporting tools
