Eirion Risk Underwriters, a Beyond Risk Management Company, is seeking an SVP, Inland Marine & Engineered Risk Underwriter to support and grow a specialized MGA platform focused on complex inland marine and engineered risks. This role is designed for an experienced underwriter with deep technical Inland Marine expertise, balancing underwriting discipline, delegated authority stewardship, broker responsiveness, and portfolio profitability.


Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite complex Inland Marine & Engineered Risks accounts under delegated authority, including large commercial, infrastructure, civil works, and specialty construction projects.
  • Structure and price course of construction, delay in start-up, and related coverages in alignment with carrier and reinsurance guidelines.
  • Manage and optimize an Inland Marine portfolio with accountability for loss ratio, rate adequacy, and capacity utilization.
  • Partner with risk engineering and loss control resources to assess exposures and integrate mitigation strategies into underwriting decisions.
  • Maintain strong, responsive relationships with wholesale and retail brokers, serving as a technical resource on complex construction risks.
  • Support new business development through thoughtful appetite expansion, solution-oriented underwriting, and fast, informed decision-making.
  • Contribute to underwriting guidelines, authority frameworks, and product enhancements.
  • Mentor junior underwriters and support underwriting best practices across the Builders Risk team.


Qualifications

  • 10+ years of inland marine underwriting experience.
  • Proven experience underwriting complex, high-value construction projects in an E&S, specialty, or delegated authority environment.
  • Strong understanding of MGA operations, delegated underwriting authority, and carrier/reinsurer expectations.
  • Working knowledge of construction risk engineering principles and loss drivers.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and broker-facing communication skills.
  • Ability to operate independently with underwriting authority while collaborating across underwriting, claims, and risk engineering teams.


Education & Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Professional designations or certifications in Property & Casualty, Inland Marine, or Construction Risk preferred.
