The team and areas of focus
Step into the future of product syndication with Akeneo Activation. We're not just solving today's challenges; we're building the next-generation platform for connecting product information with the world's diverse sales destinations. Akeneo Activation intelligently transforms and distributes PIM data, ensuring it's perfectly optimised for retailers, marketplaces, and beyond.
The Activation team is responsible for this end to end — from the commercial outcomes it delivers for customers to the cloud-native platform that delivers them. We're looking for a product engineer: someone who treats engineering as a means to a business outcome, not an end in itself.
What you'll do in this role
Outcomes, not just output. You'll help decide what we build and why, using product, usage, and commercial metrics to frame the problem, size the opportunity, and know whether we won. You'll be comfortable connecting your work to activation, retention, and ARR.
Smart trade-offs under ambiguity. Requirements here are rarely fully formed. You'll turn a vague problem into a sequenced plan, make defensible build/buy/defer calls, and explain the reasoning — what you optimised for, what you consciously gave up, and how you'd know if you were wrong.
Cross-functional impact. You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with product, design, and stakeholders across multiple product lines to ship solutions that move the metrics — not just to satisfy a ticket.
Real engineering, in service of the product. You'll architect and build scalable solutions on GCP using the JavaScript ecosystem (Node, React, Next), evolving the platform that maps large datasets and merges PIM data with external sources to stay compliant across every destination's regulatory complexity. "Built It, Own It" means you're involved across the lifecycle — from elegant microservices to deployment and observability.
Lift the team around you. You'll set the standard for how good work gets done here — mentoring engineers, modelling strong ways of working, and raising the bar on judgment, not just code. Your impact will extend far beyond your individual commits.
What sets you up for success here
You think in outcomes and trade-offs first. You can point to decisions where you used data to choose between options, deprioritised something good to ship something better, and can articulate the why behind the what.
You're effective in ambiguity — you've taken loosely-defined problems and carried them through to a shipped result that mattered commercially, without waiting for someone to hand you the spec.
You have demonstrable advanced full-stack proficiency in a large-scale serverless cloud environment, ideally with the JavaScript ecosystem (Node, React, Next) and GCP. Strong engineering is table stakes here — it's how you apply it to product problems that sets you apart.
You're a bridge between technical and non-technical worlds, able to translate complex concepts and help shape decisions across product, design, and commercial stakeholders.
You nurture and elevate teams — through mentorship, example, and the standards you hold. Quality is ingrained in how you work, including a test-driven approach to reliability and robustness.
You're a customer and business advocate who understands that technology serves a purpose, and is motivated to deliver solutions with tangible, measurable impact.
You don't need to tick every box. We strongly encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply. If you're excited about this opportunity but your experience is slightly different, we still want to hear from you!
We're committed to building a diverse team and especially welcome applications from women and others from groups underrepresented in engineering. We also have a Women in Leadership Programme to support growth into senior and leadership roles.
