This role involves capturing requirements, design, modeling, schematic capture, layout and documentation of high performance evaluation and test circuits for MACOM’s Photonic Business Unit as based in Horseheads NY. The individual will perform design and tolerancing work and collaboratively design the needed test circuits by collaborating with MACOM’s designers of critical components needed for the circuits. These include MACOM drivers, TIAs/CDRs, control chips and optical transceiver (OE and EO) converters and multiplexers. In addition, this engineer will oversee the fabrication of the boards, define the BOM, perform final assembly, undertake test and if needed debug and repair and support these devices in use by other MACOM engineers and external technical teams. This role also involves conducting the tests and product characterization activities this circuit is intended to address. Such measurements include frequency response, bit error rate, bias controls, feedback control tuning and stability characterization.
Significant experience with high speed PCB layout (signal integrity, Z(0), low cost, thermal, grounding, low EMI, mechanical constraints, etc.) and facility with PCB layout tools like PADS PCB.
Deep familiarity with Microprocessors, internal buses, FPGAs/CPLDs (Xilinx, Altera, etc.), analog (VCO, SMPS & linear DC power regulation with AC mains / DC input, A/D, D/A, amps, AGC, voltage clamp, current limiter, etc.), interfaces (SERDES, PECL, LVDS, RS232/422/485, etc.).
Preference for ability to code for same in C++ environment
Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.
