Acacia Communications is an optical networking technology company that empowers cloud and content providers to connect at the speed of light enabling them to meet the rapidly increasing consumer demands for data.

 

 

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will support tooling and fixturing for optoelectronic module assembly and test.  Develop tooling concepts, prototype parts, and solutions capable of being transferred to volume manufacturing. 

 

  • Use SolidWorks to design modules, line cards, components (lasers, PIC’s), and jigs for manufacturing and test
  • Document parts and assembly drawings
  • Work with board designers, outside vendors, 3rd party consultants, and project managers to ensure schedules and deliverables are met
  • Refine product design concepts for manufacturability and cost savings
  • Manage part databases and product specs
  • Correspond with overseas CM’s/vendors to facilitate design and assembly implementation/verification
  • Design a multitude of parts including machined, injection molded, sheet metal, etched, etc.
  • Perform product design and development of new and existing products from inception to distribution
  • Work closely with internal board designers, outside vendors, third party consultants, and project managers to ensure schedules and deliverables are met
  • Establish and adhere to aggressive and dynamic project timelines
  • Refine product design concepts for manufacturability and cost savings
  • Design and modify CAD parts/assemblies/drawings using SolidWorks
  • Evaluate complex thermal systems and interactions
  • Develop assembly drawings and maintain BOM’s
  • Manage part databases

 

 

Minimum Qualifications, Experience, Skills, Education and Certifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, physics or material science
  • 5+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency using SolidWorks
  • Experience working on components that shipped greater than 50K/year
  • Hands on experience with wire bonding, die bonding, fiber alignment, etc
  • Lab experience and experience with prototyping and fabrication a plus
  • Familiarity with thermal and stress modeling
  • Optoelectronic environment experience desired
